News
We have found ourselves subjects in photography, video and news. Here are a few articles in which we and our work have been featured in.
Period Living – Gothic Garden Gate and Arch
Donkeywell Forge has been mentioned in the August edition of Period Living magazine! We provided a gothic gate and arch for the featured home in this months issue for a beautiful 18th century Cotswold stone cottage. Below is an image of the ironwork gate that was mentioned.
Donkeywell forge worked closely with the clients, achieving the gothic style inspired gate that they desired. Taking inspiration from gothic architecture already at the property we incorporated the gothic arch into the design and embellished with forged quatrefoils in keeping with the gothic period.
House and Garden Magazine + New York Times – Style Magazine
The modern country cottage conversion designed by interior designer Christopher Howe in the heart of Gloucestershire that we fitted with a rustic stair balustrade.
The conversion was also featured in July 2017’s issue of House and Garden magazine, in which a small description of how we completed the work was produced alongside the main article.
“Christopher Howe worked with blacksmith Jon Ward to create the curves and swoops in the handrail…”
“The space is resolutely English, including the local timber, much of it salvage, and the local builders: the smithy who made the delicate balustrade…”

Our iron work was featured in a commercial photoshoot for Numero Homme magazine of Marc Jacobs clothing featuring a famous Ballet Dancer Sergei Polunin who posed and performed around our work to create some incredibly kinetic images.
Round and About – Blacksmith Forging Ahead
Featured in a piece that includes an interview from the owner Jon which covers his passion for blacksmithing and how we carry out our work and highlighting how Donkeywell forge is keeping the traditional trade alive.
“John Ward is not only keeping alive the skills of craftsmen, he is also interesting young people to take up and maintain its traditions, by from time to time recruiting new apprentices.”
