Donkeywell forge produced a forged rustic stair handrail for a commercial client which required us to provide solutions and expertise for the clients brief. The first specification was that the we needed to avoid drilling into the stone treads of the steps, we found a solution that would work around this and secured the posts into the stonework in the side of the stairs. The client also desired the handrail to not look manufactured and therefore to reduce the uniformity of the handrail we handforged all the upright bars and spaced them at differing spacings but still keeping to building regulations. We then finished all ironwork using a bronze patina to create an aged iron appearance which fit comfortably in with surrounding timber.
