Contemporary London Railings

Working closely with the designers on the project, Donkeywell developed a set of contemporary railings to sit around a terrace seating area. The railings had to meet several requirements. The railings needed to meet building regulations, have a “corten” appearance, be able to fit outdoor speakers within them and have a sloped base plate to allow rainwater to run into aco drains around the edge of the terrace. Donkeywell forge liaised continuously throughout the development stages with the designers and clients and produced technical drawings for approval and to allow the blacksmiths making the panels to work extremely accurately when making the folded steel plate bases. The uprights were a variation of steel thicknesses that the blacksmith making the railings positioned individually at angles whilst maintaining the building specifications required. Finally to give the railings the “corten” finish required our finishing team researched and tested a number of patination methods and products for sealing to achieve a regular colouration and provided a number of samples for the client consideration. We then delivered all the panels to site and fitted into the new stone work.

We worked alongside the building contractors on two projects for the same client in near proximity. Please see the details for the other project here London Terrace Railings
