Gothic Garden Arches
Donkeywell Forge was commissioned by a private client to design and create a set of 10 garden arches that would fix atop pillars situated in the garden. We took the design specifications of the client which orientated around the gothic style of the house and gardens. We had previously made a set of gothic gates and railing panels for the same client and so we drew some inspiration from there as well as the property. The arches were designed using CAD, and the images were rendered into situ so we could show our client exactly what we intended to make and discuss any further design elements with the client. We made the arches using traditional construction with swellings and tenoned bars and finished all steelwork in an aged lead appearance.

Creating the arches required many traditional and modern ironworking techniques. Each bar was was traditionally forged to a taper and curved to form the gothic style arch as can be seen in the architecture of the property. Each arch was adorned with quatrefoils and all ironwork was finished to give an aged lead appearance.
