Cripps Barn Costwolds

Cripps and Co manage a portfolio of exquisite wedding venues across England. The Donkeywell Forge team have worked with them for over a decade providing them with a variety of ironwork – ranging from wall lights to centrepiece fireplaces.

One commission of which we’re particularly proud was for their converted 16th century wedding venue, the Tithe Barn at Bolton Abbey. They wanted three, three-tier ironwork candelabras with over 80 candle holders on each. Starting with Cripp’s designers initial sketches, Donkeywell Forge worked out the best way to achieve a structure that we would be able to physically produce, while still ensuring the chandeliers would be in keeping with the 16th-century barn’s rustic appearance.

We then used traditional forging and riveting techniques to create the ironwork and finished them to fit in comfortably with the aesthetic of the venue. Upon completion, we arranged transportation and were there to install our completed work. We fitted each chandelier and fixed real wax, electric candles to achieve the authentic look but with the practicalities of electric candles. The sheer scale of the chandeliers make them the focal point of the barn.
